FAQ

Short answers to the questions we hear most. For the deeper detail, follow the links.

How does GeoSync Pro pick a currency for a visitor?

It detects a guest's country from their IP address (using the ip-api.com geolocation service), then looks up your country → currency mapping and sets the client-area currency to match. No match or an undetectable country? It falls back to your Default Currency. See Currency localisation.

Does it change the currency for logged-in customers?

No. Logged-in users are never overridden — they always see their own profile currency. Only guest (non-logged-in) visitors are localised.

What is the "EU rule"?

Instead of adding 27 separate mappings, you can add a single row with the country code EU to map all 27 EU member states to one currency (usually EUR). It's a shortcut that keeps your mappings tidy. See Configuration.

Do I need currencies set up in WHMCS first?

Yes. Any currency you map must already exist and be active under Setup → Payments → Currencies. If a mapped currency is missing or inactive, GeoSync Pro falls back to your default. The Currency tab shows an Active WHMCS currencies reference table so you can check at a glance.

Is any personal data or IP address stored?

No. Analytics are privacy-first: only anonymous, aggregate per-day counts of country → currency are kept. No IP addresses, user IDs or personal data are ever stored. A visitor's public IP is only sent to the geolocation service to look up their country — nothing else. See Analytics.

Why is my dashboard empty?

On a fresh setup this is normal. GeoSync Pro only counts guest, public-IP visits while the feature is enabled, and it never backfills past traffic. Your own admin sessions and private/localhost IPs aren't counted. Test in an incognito window from a public IP — see Troubleshooting.

Does it slow down my site?

No. A visitor's country is cached for their session (about an hour) so pages stay fast, and the license check runs quietly in the background from a cached result — so visitor pages are never slowed, even during a brief licensing-server outage.

What happens if my license lapses?

Currency localisation pauses until the license is active again. Checkout and the rest of WHMCS keep working normally. A Lifetime license stays active perpetually, so only its updates are affected when Support & Updates ends — the feature keeps running. See Licensing.

Can I hide the currency switcher?

Yes. Turn on Hide Currency Switcher on the Currency tab to hide the currency dropdown and the registration-page currency field for guests on the built-in Six, Twenty-One and Nexus templates. On a third-party theme you may also need to disable it in that theme's own settings.

Does it work with my theme?

The Hide Currency Switcher option targets the built-in WHMCS templates Six, Twenty-One and Nexus. Currency detection and switching work regardless of theme; only the hide switcher control is template-specific. For third-party themes and order forms (like Lagom), disable the switcher in the theme's settings too — GeoSync Pro warns you on-screen when your active template is non-default.

How do updates and backups work?

One click: Settings → Update Status → Check for Updates → Update Now. GeoSync Pro backs up your files and database first, applies the update, and auto-restores both if anything fails. After success the file backup is removed and a downloadable database backup is retained (store it privately — it includes configuration and license details). See Updates & backups.

What if a visitor's country can't be detected?

GeoSync Pro simply uses your Default Currency. This also happens for private or localhost IP addresses (like 127.0.0.1), which can't be geolocated — so the visitor still sees valid pricing.

Why doesn't localisation work when I test it myself?

Almost always because you're logged in, on a private/localhost IP, or the feature/license isn't active. Test in a logged-out or incognito window from a public IP. Walk through the checks in Troubleshooting.

Where can I look up an exact message I saw?

The Error reference lists every admin message verbatim — activation, sync, save and update — with what each means and what to do.

Can I remove all of GeoSync Pro's data later?

Yes. Deactivating keeps your database tables so a reactivate is lossless. To remove everything, see Uninstalling.
