Currency localisation

Currency localisation is the heart of GeoSync Pro: it shows every guest prices in their local currency automatically, so a visitor from India sees INR, one from the UK sees GBP, and so on — with no manual switching and no pop-ups asking them to choose.

The Currency Localisation tab in the WHMCS adminAddons → GeoSync Pro → Currency

How it works, end to end

  1. Country detection. When a guest lands on a client-area page, GeoSync Pro detects their country from their IP address using the ip-api.com geolocation service. An IP address is the network identifier every visitor's connection carries; it maps to a rough geographic location.
  2. Per-session caching. The detected country is cached for the visitor's session, so repeat page loads stay fast — the lookup happens once, not on every click.
  3. Country → currency mapping. GeoSync Pro looks up the country in your mapping table and sets the client-area currency to the one you assigned. A country is identified by its ISO alpha-2 code — a two-letter standard code such as IN (India), GB (United Kingdom) or JP (Japan).
  4. The EU rule. Instead of listing all 27 European Union member states, you can add a single EU rule that maps every EU country to one currency (usually EUR) in one line.
  5. Default-currency fallback. If the country can't be detected, or has no mapping, GeoSync Pro uses your configured Default Currency — so a visitor always sees a sensible price.

How it decides

Detected country → matched in your mapping → that currency. No detection or no match → your default currency. It never leaves a guest without a price.

What it never touches

  • Logged-in users are never overridden. Signed-in customers always keep their own profile currency — GeoSync Pro only localises guests.
  • Only public IPs. Private or local addresses (for example 127.0.0.1 or 192.168.x.x) can't be geolocated, so they fall back to your default currency. This is why you should always test from a real public connection.

Registration-page auto-switch

On the signup form, the currency follows the visitor: when a guest changes their country on the registration page, the currency updates automatically to match — so the totals they review before signing up are already in the right currency.

Requires an active license

Currency localisation only runs while your GeoSync Pro license is active. The check happens quietly in the background, so visitor pages are never slowed. If the license lapses, localisation pauses until it's active again — the rest of WHMCS and checkout keep working normally.

Set it up

Configure everything on the Configuration page, or follow the step-by-step Map countries to currencies guide. To hide WHMCS's own currency dropdown from guests, see Hide the currency switcher.
