# Updating

GST Manager updates itself from inside AcelleMail. You don't need SSH or file transfers for a
routine upgrade — open **GST Manager → Plugin Settings → Integrity & Updates**, and the updater
checks the Relyweb release registry, tells you whether a newer version exists, and installs it in
place with a backup taken first. This page walks you through checking, updating, and what to do if
an update won't apply.

## Check for updates

The tab shows your **Installed version** at the top. Press **Check for updates** to ask the release
registry whether anything newer is published.

* When a release is available you'll see **Version :v available** and **Released :date**, with a
  **View changelog** link so you can read what changed before deciding.
* When you already have the newest build, you'll simply see **Up to date**.
* If you see **"Could not reach the update server (...). Your plugin continues to work normally."**,
  that is not an error. It usually just means no release has been pushed since your version, or the
  registry was briefly unreachable. Your plugin keeps running exactly as before — try again later.

The check is on demand. Nothing is downloaded or changed when you check — you only see whether a
newer version exists.

## Update now

When a release is available, press **Update now**. GST Manager confirms first with
**"Download and install v:v now? A backup of the current version is taken first."** — confirm to
proceed.

The updater runs in place and in order: it performs a **live license re-check**, then
**downloads** the release, **verifies** it, **backs up** the current version (a snapshot of the
plugin's own database tables — see [Backup and restore](/gst-manager-acellemail/backup-and-restore)),
**extracts** it, and **applies** it. If any step fails, the update **rolls back automatically** to
the version you were running. On success you'll see **"Updated to v:v successfully."**

::: tip Prefer a file upload?
You can always update by hand instead: download the release archive and upload it via
**Admin → Plugins → Upload Plugin**. This does the same job without using the in-app updater.

## What updates need (by license type)

What you're entitled to install depends on your license — see
[Licensing](/gst-manager-acellemail/licensing) for the full picture.

| License | Updates |
| --- | --- |
| **Leased** | New releases are included for as long as the license stays active. |
| **Lifetime** | You can install new releases while your **Support & Updates** plan is active. |

Whatever your license, your **current version always keeps working**. Losing update entitlement
never disables the plugin — it only stops you installing *newer* releases until you renew.

## If an update won't apply

If **Update now** stops before finishing, the message tells you why:

* **Not entitled** — *"Your Support & Updates plan has expired or is not active. Renew it to
  install updates. Your current version continues to work normally."* Renew your plan, then check
  again.
* **No download yet** — *"vX is published but its download is not yet available — please contact
  support."* The release is announced but its artifact isn't ready.
* **Server unreachable** — *"Could not reach the update server (...). Your plugin continues to
  work normally."* Try again later.
* **Verify failed / other failure** — the update reports **"Update failed: :reason"** and rolls
  back automatically, so you stay on your working version. Retry, or update by uploading the
  archive via **Admin → Plugins → Upload Plugin**.
