# Export invoices

When you sell to customers outside India, GST Manager can give those invoices their **own separate
sequence** — a number like **EXP-2026-1** — running alongside the standard invoice number. This
keeps your export documents cleanly numbered for FEMA and RBI purposes without disturbing your
regular domestic numbering. It's optional, so you turn it on only if you need it.

## When a number is assigned

An export number isn't reserved the moment an invoice is created. GST Manager assigns the next
**EXP-{YEAR}-N** value **when an export invoice is paid**, so your sequence only ever counts real,
completed export sales — no gaps from abandoned orders. The standard invoice number is still
assigned as usual; the export number is *in addition* to it. Which invoices count as exports is
decided by the [GST classification](/gst-manager-acellemail/features/gst-classification) — anything
billed outside India.

## Turning it on

You configure everything under **GST Manager → Setup → Export Settings**:

1. Switch on **Separate export numbering** — its help reads *"Assign EXP-{YEAR}-N numbers to
invoices for customers outside India in addition to the standard invoice number."*
2. Set the **Number format** using the template tokens (this is where the `EXP-{YEAR}-N` shape comes
from), and the **Next number** to start the sequence where you want.
3. Fill in the **Export declaration** and the **FEMA declaration** — the latter's help notes it is a
*"Foreign Exchange Management Act compliance statement; printed below the export declaration."*

Click **Save changes**; you'll see *"Settings saved."*

## Where the declarations appear

Both statements print in the **footer of the export invoice PDF**, beneath the export document
title. Combined with the **Export no.** label near the top, the resulting **Export Invoice** carries
everything a foreign-currency sale needs. See how the whole document is laid out on the
[Invoice PDF](/gst-manager-acellemail/features/invoice-pdf) page.
